A prolific piano virtuoso who has performed in the U. S. and Internationally, Daniel Asbury Mixon was born on August 19, 1949 in Harlem and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in a musical household he was influenced by his mother and grandparents beginning his early artistic expression at the age of 3. He studied and performed as a tap dancer at the Ruth Williams Dance Studio and even then was known as “The Show Stopper.” Danny attended the High School of Performing Arts with dance as his major.

Performer at Bryant Park Week of July 7: Jon Weber

The performer this week (July 7-11) at the Bryant Park piano series is Jon Weber.

Jazz pianist Jon Weber has recorded and toured all over the world, winning numerous honors for performance and composition – scoring extensively for television since 1987. Gary Burton, Roy Hargrove, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and Avishai Cohen have all recorded Jon’s music, and his newest critically-acclaimed release, Simple Complex, rose to #1. Jon lives in New York City and hosts NPR’s Piano Jazz with Jon Weber after frequently serving as guest host for Marian McPartland.

Performer at Bryant Park Week of June 30: Brennen Ernst

The performer this week (June 30-July 4) at the Bryant Park piano series is Brennen Ernst.

Brennen Ernst is a multi-instrumental multi-genre musical daredevil. In his career thus far he has taken on—and mastered—piano, banjo, and guitar, adding tenor vocals and exploring multiple genres—bluegrass and old time, jazz and swing. In this project he focuses on some of his favorite banjo pieces.

Performer at Bryant Park Week of June 9: Ted Rosenthal

The performer this week (June 9-13) at the Bryant Park piano series is Ted Rosenthal.

Ted Rosenthal is one of the leading jazz pianist/composers around. The New Yorker magazine describes him as “a musician’s musician who balances technique and taste.” The Los Angeles Times calls him “a pianist of rarest skill.” Rosenthal actively tours worldwide with his trio and as a soloist. He also has performed with many jazz greats, including Gerry Mulligan, Art Farmer, Phil Woods, Bob Brookmeyer, and James Moody.
