A respected figure in the New York jazz scene, she has appeared at iconic venues including Birdland, the Apollo Theater, and the Kennedy Center. Bertha has received multiple lifetime achievement awards and her oral history is archived in the Library of Congress. She continues to teach and perform, including a residency at Minton’s in Harlem.

Renowned for her interpretations of composers like Cole Porter and Johnny Mercer, Sherman continues to enchant audiences across the globe.

The performer this week (July 14-18) at the Bryant Park piano series is Danny Mixon.

A prolific piano virtuoso who has performed in the U. S. and Internationally, Daniel Asbury Mixon was born on August 19, 1949 in Harlem and raised in Brooklyn, New York. Growing up in a musical household he was influenced by his mother and grandparents beginning his early artistic expression at the age of 3. He studied and performed as a tap dancer at the Ruth Williams Dance Studio and even then was known as “The Show Stopper.” Danny attended the High School of Performing Arts with dance as his major.

Performer at Bryant Park Week of July 7: Jon Weber

The performer this week (July 7-11) at the Bryant Park piano series is Jon Weber.

Jazz pianist Jon Weber has recorded and toured all over the world, winning numerous honors for performance and composition – scoring extensively for television since 1987. Gary Burton, Roy Hargrove, Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen, and Avishai Cohen have all recorded Jon’s music, and his newest critically-acclaimed release, Simple Complex, rose to #1. Jon lives in New York City and hosts NPR’s Piano Jazz with Jon Weber after frequently serving as guest host for Marian McPartland.
