A multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer, Emmet Cohen stands as a pivotal figure in his generation, celebrated both internationally and domestically. As the leader of the Emmet Cohen Trio and the visionary behind the Masters Legacy Series, Cohen’s artistry has earned him acclaim as the winner of the 2019 American Pianists Awards and a finalist in the 2011 Thelonious Monk International Piano Competition.
Cohen’s performances regularly grace esteemed venues like Jazz at Lincoln Center, the Village Vanguard, and Birdland, while his talents have resonated at renowned festivals such as Newport, Monterey, and North Sea. With a global reach that spans over 30 countries, Cohen’s entrepreneurial spirit also led to the creation of “Live From Emmet’s Place,” a live-streamed “Harlem rent party” that unites a worldwide audience through tens of millions of internet views.
Adding to the allure of this special concert, the performance will feature the incomparable Houston Person, a living legend in the jazz world. Renowned for his saxophone sounds, Person’s collaboration with the Emmet Cohen Trio promises an afternoon filled with improvisational brilliance, and the infectious energy that defines the jazz legacy.
“When Cohen is in full flight, with Poole slamming the kit around the room behind him, he reminds me of Ahmad Jamal: not the genteel Jamal you hear on record, but the wall-banging, holy-shit Jamal I saw in concert a few years ago, who rolled across the keyboard like a thunderstorm.”
