Saxophonist Sergei Govorov and Pianist Britta De Groot at Kings Bay Y (Site)
Thursday January 9, 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm
$29 – $97.88(Description in Russian on the EventBrite site)
The saxophone is commonly associated with jazz music, but is it only capable of that? What if we play music by Bach, Bizet, and Rachmaninoff on the saxophone? And add to that the music of Piazzolla, Gershwin, and contemporary composers of the 20th and 21st centuries? A touch of rock, and still sprinkle in a couple of jazz pieces and some dance music? This results in the program “Sax Bach Rock-n-Roll” presented by saxophonist Sergei Govorov and pianist Britta De Groot. This captivating performance will showcase the saxophone in ways you’ve never imagined, revealing hidden dimensions and uncharted territories of this versatile instrument.
Each piece has been carefully selected to highlight the saxophone’s rich tonal palette and its ability to transcend traditional boundaries.
Sergei Govorov moved to the USA one and a half years ago through a program for people with extraordinary abilities. Sergei, an artist of Yamaha company, has dedicated over 30 years to playing the saxophone and has performed concerts worldwide, including in the USA, Italy, Spain, the Czech Republic, France, Hungary, Switzerland, Egypt, and China, as well as in numerous cities across Russia. His diverse musical abilities encompass classical, jazz, folk, and avant-garde music. He has participated in some of the world’s top festivals, including the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland.
Britta De Groot is a young and rising American pianist. De Groot recently completed her Master’s in Piano Performance under renowned instructor of piano, Dr. David Korevaar. She has been praised for bringing high energy and enthusiasm to her performances as a classical piano soloist and collaborator.
Govorov and De Groot launched their duo in 2023, and have already performed over 30 concerts not only along the Front Range area, where they are based, but have also been privileged to share their music with a wide-array of audiences, from the rugged mountains of Montana to the vibrant streets of New York. Coming from two highly distinctive nations, the duo is passionate about building alliances for peace through the universal language of music. The duo invites audiences to enjoy their performances, which consist of a dynamic blend of classical selections as well as classical-fusion, and repertoire from more popular genres.
