WAGNER Overture to Tannhäuser
Be there for the Carnegie Hall debut of major rising-star conductor Jakub Hrůša. The Bamberg Symphony soars to life and the Holy Grail descends to Earth in the shimmering prelude to Wagner’s Lohengrin—an opera that Hrůša conducted to great acclaim at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where he was recently appointed music director. Brahms’s Third is the shortest of his four symphonies, and its relative compactness accentuates its emotional impact and masterful construction. The brilliant pianist Hélène Grimaud joins in Robert Schumann’s sole piano concerto, a lasting favorite of the Romantic period. The concert closes with the sweeping drama of Wagner’s Overture to Tannhäuser.
