Bertha Hope is a revered jazz pianist, composer, and bandleader whose music carries bebop history into the present with warmth, swing, and authority. Shaped by Richie Powell and collaborations with greats including Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Foster, Philly Joe Jones, and Nat Adderley, she has performed at major venues from Birdland and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola to the Apollo Theater, Kennedy Center, and Minton’s in Harlem. A co-founder of Jazzberry Jam! and leader of ELMOllenium, her tribute to Elmo Hope, Hope remains a vital performer and educator, honored with lifetime achievement awards and celebrated as a Bronx Living Legend.
