Story Recital: Fauré’s Last Love

Performers
Aline Piboule, musical design and piano
Pascal Quignard, literary creation and narrator

Fauré’s romantic relationship with Marguerite Hasselmans, witness to the last twenty-four years of the composer’s life, inspired the pianist Aline Piboule and the writer Pascal Quignard to have an intimate conversation between music and words. When they met in 1900, she was twenty-four years old, he was fifty-five. Until the composer’s death, Marguerite Hasselmans would be a performer of choice, a close friend and a daily confidante, an observer of Parisian musical life as well as the maturation of Fauré’s work. After Gabriel Fauré’s death, she would continue to celebrate his music for twenty-four years, right up until Vladimir Jankélévitch’s great book that she would inspire.
Pianist Aline Piboule, accustomed to encountering various worlds with her instrument, and writer Pascal Quignard, who is passionate about music, lend them a voice in an intimate program combining piano and narrative.
