Juilliard Jazz delves into the genius of pianist, composer, arranger, and educator Mary Lou Williams with a focus on her musical and spiritual transformation. Williams performed with the McKinney’s Cotton Pickers, Benny Goodman and Cecil Taylor, while also mentoring Charlie Parker and other young architects of the bebop generation. The students will perform music she composed and arranged for secular and sacred contexts. Don’t miss this one-night event that celebrates her enduring legacy.
