Jeffrey Milarsky, Conductor
PROKOFIEV Piano Concerto No. 3
Valerie COLEMAN Concerto for Orchestra, “Renaissance”
RACHMANINOFF Symphonic Dances, Op. 45
Jeffrey Milarsky leads the Juilliard Orchestra in a dynamic program that bridges Russia and America. Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3, composed and premiered in the U.S., features haunting and brilliant writing for both soloist and symphony. Rachmaninoff’s Symphonic Dances, similarly written after the composer moved to the U.S, offers a mesmerizing kaleidoscope of orchestral influences, blending Russian nostalgia, sacred chants, and even a hint of jazz.
Juilliard alum and faculty Milarsky is well known for championing and premiering the work of American composers, and he leads the recently composed Renaissance Concerto by Valerie Coleman, which is inspired by both the Great Migration and the Harlem Renaissance.
