SUMMARY:Senri Oe Trio at Birdland (Early and Late Shows)
DESCRIPTION:Halloween night at Birdland. Expect the unexpected. \nOn the most magical night of the year\, something extraordinary is about to happen at\nNew York City’s legendary Birdland Theater. The music will cast its own spell — and\nonce it does\, you won’t want to break free. Senri Oe Trio takes the stage for two extraordinary nights — four sets of music that defy category\, blur boundaries\, and just might bewitch you. Senri Oe is one of the most remarkable reinventions in contemporary music. Beginning classical piano at age three and discovering jazz at fifteen\, he first rose to extraordinary heights in Japan: a multi-platinum recording artist\, Japanese Grammy winner\, actor\, television anchor\, and author — a cultural icon whose name defined an era. At forty-seven\, at the peak of his fame\, Senri made a bold and deeply personal choice. He walked away from stardom\, moved to New York City with his beloved dachshund\, Peace\, and enrolled in The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Under the mentorship of masters including Junior Mance and Aaron Goldberg\, he reinvented himself from scratch. It was not a retreat. It was a return to his first love.\nSince his 2012 jazz debut\, Boys Mature Slow\, Senri has built a powerful international\npresence — performing at the Atlanta and Detroit Jazz Festivals\, headlining SummerFest for two consecutive years\, and charting at #24 on JazzWeek in 2023 with his album Class of ’88.\nThese Birdland performances celebrate the worldwide release of his latest album\,\nHOMEWORK (Global release: September 4\, 2026) — conceived in his Brooklyn living\nroom and recorded at The Bunker Studio with bassist Matt Clohesy and drummer Ross\nPederson\, with mixing by Aaron Nevezie. HOMEWORK fuses digital and acoustic\nworlds into a soundtrack without visuals: brilliant\, edgy\, and profoundly human.\nDon’t miss your chance to be part of something unforgettable. This Halloween\, let the\nmusic haunt you. \nSenri Oe — piano & all compositions\nMatt Clohesy — bass\nRoss Pederson — drums \n\nThis event is recurring on the following dates:\nFri\, Oct 30 at 07:00 PM\nFri\, Oct 30 at 09:30 PM\nSat\, Oct 31 at 07:00 PM\nSat\, Oct 31 at 09:30 PM
