The “superb pianist” (The New York Times) Jean-Yves Thibaudet joins Rafael Payare and the Orchestra for Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2, with its tender opening giving way to an extroverted role for solo piano culminating in a fiery finale. With his final symphony, unfinished at his death, Bruckner pushes the boundaries of 19th-century harmony in this work of tremendous emotional power.

Rafael Payare (Conductor): Rafael Payare’s innate musicianship, technical brilliance, and charismatic energy on the podium have elevated him to being one of today’s most sought-after conductors. The 2024–25 season marks Payare’s third as music director of l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM) and his fifth as music director of California’s San Diego Symphony, a relationship that has been recognized as one of the most dynamic in North America. His previous posts include serving as principal conductor and music director of the Ulster Orchestra (2014–19), with whom he appeared twice at the BBC Proms, in 2016 and 2019. Jean-Yves Thibaudet (Piano): Jean-Yves Thibaudet has earned a reputation as one of the world’s finest pianists. He is especially known for his diverse interests beyond the classical world, including numerous collaborations in film, fashion, and visual art.
