SUMMARY:With Poetry and Justice for All: Three Anniversaries in Song\, at Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Music Center
DESCRIPTION:$40 tickets are available for groups of 10 or more. Call the box office at 212 501 3330. \nTHE YIDDISH PHILHARMONIC CHORUS\nBinyumen Schaechter\, Music Director\nSeth Weinstein\, Pianist \nWe’re celebrating three anniversaries! It’s 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. You’ll hear tributes to America you likely haven’t heard before – at least not in Yiddish! – including Woody Guthrie’s “This Land Is Your Land\,” and “America” by Neil Diamond – with both songs in Yiddish and in four-part harmony! It’s also 150 years since the birth of the beloved Yiddish poet Avrom Reisen\, known for many songs including the tender “Afn nil” (On the Nile) and “Borekh ate” (Blessed Are You)\, the moving “May ko mashme lon” (What Does It Teach Us)\, the powerful “Di Kirkhnglokn” (Church Bells)\, and the adorable “Yorn dray\, shprakhn fir” (Three Years\, Four Languages). And it’s 125 years since the birth of the equally beloved (but radically different) Yiddish poet Itzik Manger\, best known for the heartrending “Afn veg shteyt a boym” (On the Road Stands a Tree) and “Di Goldene pave” (The Golden Peacock) and the delightful “Yidl mitn fidl” (Yiddle with His Fiddle) – made famous by Molly Picon – and “Di Megile lider\,” a modern retelling of the story of the Purim Megillah. And befitting the occasion: A first-ever “Happy Birthday” in Yiddish! Schaechter’s novel musical arrangements include eight world premieres this season. No need to know any Yiddish – our spoken song intros\, English supertitles\, and comprehensive printed program will keep you in the loop. \nA freylekhn geboyrn-tog (“Happy Birthday”) – P. HILL / M.J. SUMMARY:Jean Rondeau and The Bach Dynasty: Orchestra of St. Luke's Bach Festival\, at Carnegie Hall
DESCRIPTION:Harpsichordist Jean Rondeau returns to lead OSL in the finale of this year’s Bach Festival with a program tracing the evolution of the Bach dynasty’s music across the 18th century. \nThe evening begins with Johann Christian Bach’s Concerto in F Minor\, an exciting work from the youngest son of J.S. Bach. J.C. embraced the lighter\, more melodic style of the Classical era\, a departure from his father’s intricate counterpoint. This lesser-known concerto brims with drama\, shifting from a stormy opening to a more intimate middle movement before closing with a rapid-fire finale. \nCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach\, whose music was prized for its unpredictability and expressive freedom\, is represented by his Concerto in D Minor\, a work steeped in the newly emerging Empfindsamer Stil (“sensitive style”). Emphasizing sudden contrasts\, restless harmonies\, and deeply personal expression\, it reflects his bold departure from Baroque formality. Rondeau also performs his transcription of C.P.E.’s Andante con tenerezza\, a movement of introspective journeying. \nThe program concludes with J.S. Bach’s Concerto in D Minor. Likely adapted from an earlier violin concerto\, it is filled with fierce virtuosity\, jagged rhythms\, and striking harmonic clashes. It’s Bach at his most dramatic and unrelenting\, and a thrilling finale to this exploration of a legendary musical lineage. \nProgram\n\nJohann Christian Bach\nConcerto in F minor \nCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach\nAndante con tenerezza from Sonata in A Major (trans. Rondeau) \nCarl Philipp Emanuel Bach\nConcerto in D minor \nJohann Sebastian Bach\nConcerto in D minor

Gabriela studied classical guitar privately\, and music and piano at a  Conservatory in Buenos Aires.Adding to the musical medley was her father’s influence (a noted jazz saxophonist and arranger) which became even stronger than her classical studies. After finishing high school\, Gabriela decided to move to New York. There she studied orchestration for brass and strings in a class conducted by Don Sebesky and composition at Hunter College. Gabriela started to write her own material. Her studio and club work took off leading to a record deal with major label Warner Brothers Jazz.

SUMMARY:Hélène Grimaud\, Classical Recital at Caramoor
DESCRIPTION:Renowned “Renaissance woman” Hélène Grimaud returns to Caramoor for a deeply poetic recital exploring the profound emotional landscapes of the “Three Bs”—Bach\, Beethoven\, and Brahms. Known for a visceral intensity that has captivated Caramoor audiences since her 1998 debut and a celebrated 2015 residency\, Grimaud brings her trademark technical control to a program of autumnal masterpieces. From the intimate\, variation-rich Beethoven Piano Sonata No. 30 to the nostalgic textures of Brahms’ Fantasies and the monumental architecture of Bach’s Chaconne\, this performance showcases the same unapologetically personal artistry that defines her work as both a world-class pianist and a dedicated wildlife conservationist. \nProgram\nLUDWIG VAN BEETHOVEN: Piano Sonata No. 30 in E Major\, Op. 109\nJOHANNES BRAHMS: 3 Intermezzi\, Op. 117; 7 Fantasies\, Op. 116\nJOHANN SEBASTIAN BACH: Chaconne from Violin Partita No. 2 in D Minor\, BWV 1004 (arr. Busoni)
